The Punjab Government has given its approval to Rs 26.27 crore estimate for the repair of 48-km Kala Sanghian-Nakodar-Nurmahal-Phillaur road.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Jalandhar, Varinder Kumar Sharma, has submitted estimates for the repair of road from Jalandhar to Sultanpur Lodhi before the 550th Parkash Utsav celebrations of Guru Nanal Dev.

In an official communication to Chief Principal Secretary of the Punjab Chief Minister the DC stated: “As per directions, the requisite estimates of repair of roads from the district are submitted for administrative approval and requisite funds.”

Special Secretary, Public Works Department (PWD), in an official communication to Chief Engineer (HQ), PWD (Buildings and Roads) stated: “The Punjab Government has given its administrative approval for the repair of various roads in the state, including the 48-km Kala Sanghian-Nakodar-Nurmahal-Phillaur stretch.”

Executive Engineer, Jalandhar, Balbir Singh, said, “The department will float tenders within a week for carrying out road repairs.”

Residents of Phillaur and Nakodar subdivisions had repeatedly urged the Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, to direct the PWD to repair the Nurmahal-Phillaur road, which was in bad condition.

In a recent communication to the Chief Minister, Dilbag Singh, a resident of Baina Pur village, stated: “The Union and state governments are planning to celebrate the 550 birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on large scale for which the preparations have already begun. For devotees of Delhi, Haryana, UP, Chandigarh and other states Phillaur-Nakodar route is shortest to reach Sultanpur Lodhi to participate in birthday celebrations Guru Nanak Dev.”

“Presently, it is difficult for residents to ply vehicles on the Phillaur-Nakodar road, which is teeming with potholes at many places,” Dilbag added.

“The issue has been brought into the notice of officials and the department concerned, but to no avail,” he said.

Meanwhile, Secretary at the CM’s office has forwarded communication to Secretary, PWD, directing him to take immediate action as per the rules/policy on the matter.
