Phagwara: The city police have arrested a travel agent for duping a Nakodar village resident of Rs 18 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kulwinder Singh said the suspect had been identified as Joginder Singh, a resident of Bhainni Gillan Kamboj village in Amritsar. The DSP said Ajay Kumar, a resident of Mahun Wal village, had complained to the Jalandhar (rural) SSP that he paid Rs 18 lakh to the suspect to facilitate his migration to Canada. The suspect neither sent him abroad nor returned his money. The DSP said a case under Sections 406 (breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professions Regulation Act was registered against the suspect and three others. Man booked for rash driving

Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have booked a person on the charge of rash driving and mischief. Investigating officer (IO) Vijay Kumar said the suspect had been identified as Amarjit Singh, a resident of Vehran village falling under the Mehat Pur police station. Charan Singh, a resident of Raje Wal village, complained to the police that the suspect was driving a tractor-trailer negligently on the evening of February 18 and hit his car near Kot Khan village and damaged the vehicle. The IO said a case under Sections 279 (rash driving on a public highway) and 427 (mischief) of the IPC has been registered. OC

PO lands in police net

Phagwara: The Lohian Khas police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO), who has been absconding for the past one year. Investigating officer (IO) Bhajan Singh said the suspect had been identified as Raju Singh, a resident of Ferozepur district. He was wanted in a case of drug peddling. OC

Man caught with liquor bottles

Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested a person on the charge of selling illicit liquor. The suspect has been identified as Taran Singh, a resident of Pandori Jagir village. Investigating officer Amandeep Singh said nine bottles of hooch were seized from his possession. A case under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Punjab Excise Act was registered against the suspect. He was later released on bail. OC

Thief held with stolen goods

Phagwara: The police arrested a person and recovered stolen cosmetic goods from his possession on Thursday night. Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the suspect, identified as Lakhbir, a resident of Gobindpura locality in Phagwara, confessed that he stole cosmetic goods from a rehri of his neighbour, Manoj, at his house. A case under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC has been registered.
