Doda: On her wedding day, Sunita Devi of Kishtwar district turned up at a polling booth on Thursday to cast her vote for the Doda-Udhampur seat. A groom from the Jajote panchayat of Doda, Anil Kumar, also casted his vote on his big day. A number of newlyweds came dressed in traditional attires to cast their vote and celebrated their special day with the bands performing outside the booths. OC

Mir blames PDP for ‘suffering of people’

Srinagar: State Congress president Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Thursday blamed the PDP for “acts of betrayal and attempts of playing with the emotions of people for the sake of power”. Mir was leading a roadshow at  Devsar in Kulgam district, which is part of the Anantnag constituency. The Anantnag seat will go to the polls in three phases from April 23. Mir, who is contesting from Anantnag, said south Kashmir had “suffered immensely on all fronts due to the sellout by the PDP”. He urged people to defeat the politics of opportunism and exploitation. tns
