New Delhi/Beijing, January 25
As the coronavirus turned virulent, India is understood to have requested China to permit over 250 Indian students stuck in Wuhan, the epicentre of the new SARS-like virus (CoV), to leave the city, sources here said.
About 700 Indian students, mostly studying medicine, are believed to be studying in different universities in Wuhan and its vicinity.
In Delhi, PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to PM, held a meeting with Health Secretary and Civil Aviation Secretary. Health Minister Harsh Vardhan separately held a review meeting and said no cases had been detected in India so far though 11 patients had been isolated on symptomatic basis. “Of these 11, samples of four patients have tested negative after tests at the National Institute of Virology, Pune,” he said. The virus has infected 1,300 people. It has spread to 30 regions and provinces in China . The death toll has risen to 41. — TNS
