A brawl occurred at Baklavi restaurant in South City here last night in which around 10 persons suffered injuries. Anirudh Garg, Karan Goel, Sanjiv Mongian and Rajnish Garg received serious injuries in the incident.

Karan (35) is a former cricketer who had played for Punjab in the Ranjhi Trophy and Vijay Hazare tournament and other national meets. He also represented Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). At present, he is the member of the Punjab senior selection committee, appointed by the Punjab Cricket Association. Other injured persons are businessmen from the city.

Complainant Anirudh Garg told the police that he owns an investment company in the share market. On Friday, he had called a meeting of investors at Baklavi restaurant in South City.

“When the meeting endede, restaurant owners started arguments and suddenly SS Bindra, Municipal Town Planner, Bathinda, along with his sons Gurkirat and Puneet Bindra, and managers Pawan and Ajay attacked us with rods and bottles. I, along with Karan, Sanjiv and Rajnish, suffered serious injuries,” the complainant said.

Those who got serious injuries are undergoing treatment at the DMCH.

“We had booked a banquet hall for 70 persons. After the party ended, we asked the restaurant owner to give the bill but he said we have to pay more as more than 70 persons attended the event,”he said.

The police registered an attempt to murder case and under the Arms Act against SS Bindra, his sons Puneet, Gurkirat, managers Pawan and Ajay on Saturday.

Sarabha Nagar SHO SI Hapreet Singh said a probe was on in the case.

They attacked me, my staff first, says co-owner of eatery. They were all drunk. They abused me and my staff. They started throwing plates, dustbins and whatever came in their hands. They even took a knife from the kitchen and threatened to kill me. When they were throwing plates at me they hurt one of their own companions on the head and started blaming me while my both arms suffered internal injuries. There were 100 persons. But they were adamant that they would pay the bill of 70 persons only, said a co-owner of the eatery.
