The Railway authorities have decided to halt all trains plying on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur track, including express trains, at Nanaksar railway station during the programme to mark the "barsi" of Nanaksar sect founder Baba Nand Singh. The "barsi" programme at Gurdwara Nanaksar Sahib, near Jagraon, would be held from August 24 to 28.
There are several lakh followers of the Nanaksar sect throughout the country. A large number of devotees visit Gurdwara Nanaksar Sahib during the "barsi" programme every year. More than one lakh followers are expected to visit the gurdwara this year.
Jagraon Railway Station Superintendent Kulwinder Singh Grewal said: “Apart from passenger trains plying between Ludhiana and Ferozepur, the Ferozepur-Chandigarh Express will also halt at Nanaksar railway station for five days. Besides, the Ajmer-Amritsar Express, which runs two days a week, will also stop at Nanaksar to pick and drop passengers. We have taken this decision to felicitate thousands of followers of the Nanaksar sect who will be visiting here to attend the 'barsi' programme.”
