Ludhiana, June 2

An ex-serviceman (85) succumbed to Covid-19 at Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Hospital here today. A resident of Fauji Mohalla near bus stand, he tested positive on May 31. With his death, the Covid toll in Ludhiana district has gone up to nine.

The ex-serviceman was brought to Emergency Ward on May 28. He had type 2 respiratory failure, coronary artery disease, kidney and liver failure, and bilateral pneumonia. He was immediately put on a ventilator.

After the patient tested positive for Covid, a doctor couple from Khanna, who worked at Oswal Hospital, also tested positive. The paramedical staff was also quarantined.

Dr Rajesh Bagga, Civil Surgeon, said the deceased was a cardiac patient and possibly died due to dilated cardiomyopathy. He was also Covid positive.

A 16-year-old girl from SAS Nagar here tested positive at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. Also, a woman (52) of Ishar Nagar tested positive for Covid at a private hospital in Ludhiana.

Meanwhile, seven persons were discharged from Mother and Child Hospital, Vardhman. They included six RPF personnel who came here from Delhi as part of a battalion.
