Ludhiana, February 27

A 15-year-old girl was kidnapped by a Bihar-based youth from Pawat village in Machhiwara Sahib. The Machhiwara police yesterday registered a case of kidnapping against the suspect, Nitish Kumar.

Complainant Sulekha, a resident of Pawat village, told the police that she had five children and Kajal was her youngest child. She studies in Class IX. Yesterday, Kajal left home saying that she was going to Machhiwara to buy a silver chain for her. When she did not return, they went to the jewellery shop to enquire about her but the jeweller said Kajal did not visit her shop.

The complainant said when they enquired, they got to know that her daughter was kidnapped by the suspect on the pretext of marrying her. The suspect was a painter by profession and he wanted to marry the girl due to which he could have taken her along.

ASI Shingara Singh said after registering a case, probe was launched to trace the girl and the suspect.
