Ludhiana, February 2
Following the start of road construction along a bank of the Buddha Nullah by the MC, BJP leaders have asserted that the width of the nullah will be reduced. Kimti Rawal, the convenor of the RTI Cell for BJP Punjab, has submitted a complaint to Ludhiana DC regarding this issue.
Rawal pointed out that there is already an existing road on one side of the nullah in the Ludhiana North constituency, and additional road construction work on the opposite side was launched recently. A new road, some 3 km long, is to be constructed from Haibowal main puli to the bridge over Buddha Nullah near Chand Cinema at a cost of approximately Rs 5.84 crore.
He alleged that constructing the road on the other side would reduce the width of the nullah, creating a threat of overflow during rainy days. Rawal also called for action against encroachments along the nullah.
Expressing similar concerns, another BJP leader, Parminder Mehta, voiced his apprehension about the road construction potentially narrowing the nullah’s width, leading to complications. “The nullah’s width has already decreased at various points, and it is a matter of concern. The existing fencing is also on the verge of collapsing at various locations. In view of the pre-existing weak condition of the nullah’s banks, there is a risk of road damage if the water overflows during rainy days. We have emphasised the need for a thorough investigation into the matter,” he said.
