Ludhiana, April 22

A member from National Board of Examination (NBE) today visited the Civil Hospital for inspection. Dr Anupam Sachdev, from Shri Ganga Ram Hospital, today inspected the hospital with intent to start a postgraduate course in pediatrics. After the approval of NBE, the hospital will train students in Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in pediatrics.

Diplomate of National Board is postgraduate in post-doctoral medical education, under the ministry of health and family welfare, in various disciplines of modern medicine as mentioned by the Medical Council of India. The DNB is equal to the MD and the MS.

“Today, Dr Sachdev, inspected the pediatrics department of the hospital to start the course in paediatrics. If all goes well, there will be four seats and the course will start in August this year,” said Dr Pardeep, Director Academics Board, DNB programme, Civil Hospital, Ludhiana.

He further added that students for the course will be selected through National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET). Civil hospital is engaging one faculty member from Christian Medical College and Hospital and Dr Daljit Singh, former principal of the DMCH, will also be the part of the faculty.

After paediatrics, the hospital is also planning to start a course in anaesthesia and a member from the NBE will be visiting again on April 24 for inspection.

The hospital is successfully running the DNB in gynaecology and four students are studying under the same and Ludhiana’s civil hospital is the first hospital to start this course in the state. After the completion of the course, the students will be absorbed in the hospital and hence the problem of shortage of doctors will also be saved.

DC inspects different wards, drug store

Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Aggarwal today inspected the Civil Hospital and Mother and Child Hospital. Aggarwal who came for dental treatment at the hospital also took a round of different wards and drug store as well. While taking the round of the Mother and Child Hospital, Aggarwal talked to the patients and enquired if they were satisfied with the facilities provided by the hospital. Some expressed their satisfaction while others complained about the meals given at the hospital were not up to the mark. The DC also visited a drug store to know the current status and sales of medicines. The druggist said that the sale has been cut down to two lakh from four lakh. He revealed the reason that earlier medicines to primary health centre and community health centres were sent from here but now they get the supply directly from Kharar due to which there was drop in the sales.
