Ludhiana, February 17

As the Assembly elections are approaching, the district police have intensified patrolling and checking. All the police stations have been told to ensure routine checking of vehicles and suspicious persons in their respective jurisdictions.

On Wednesday night, the Haibowal police station carried out checking of vehicles on the Haibowal road. Station House Officer Haibowal, Sub-Inspector Harpreet Singh along with the police force and paramilitary jawans stopped several vehicles and checked them to ensure that no drugs or liquor is being supplied to the area for election purpose.

Harpreet said apart from checking vehicles, ID proof of the occupants of vehicles were also checked. “Since a few days are left for the Assembly elections, the police have also increased patrolling in the area. Patrolling vehicles daily take round of the area and also interact with the area people to instil a sense of confidence in them,” added SHO Harpreet.

The SHO urged people to share inputs about anti-social elements and suspicious persons so that immediate action can be taken against them.

Sources said the Election Commission has strictly instructed the police to ensure no law and order situation takes places before or during the voting process.
