The crusaded launched against stubble burning is proving to be a cat and mouse race for the administration. While the rank and file in the Civil and Police Department are leaving no stones unturned to persuade paddy cultivators not to violate the Supreme Court’s orders, farmers continue do so on the pretext of accidental fires, owing to reasons such as fire caused by fireworks and crackers burst on the occasion of celebrations of the 550th Parkash Purb.
Meanwhile, the police, under the supervision of Karanvir, Ahmedgarh DSP; Sukhdeep Singh, SHO, Ludhiana; and Sanjeev Kapoor, SHO, Sadar, continued organising flag marches.
Cases were registered against ten persons for allegedly violating the SC orders. Sukhdeep Singh and Sanjeev Kapoor said suspects booked under these cases tried to produce an alibi that they were not present in the area when the concerned officials noticed fires in their fields.
Cases were registered on the statements of designated officials of the Revenue Department, who had reported cases on the basis of physical verification and satellite links available with the department.
