To ensure surveillance of vehicles plying on highways and link roads, the police have roped in educational, social and religious organisations to install CCTV cameras at all strategic points here.

Special teams of cops have been constituted, which will study the footage of selected cameras periodically, so that a remedial action can be taken to check movement of suspicious vehicles and anti-social elements.

The police claimed having solved some blind cases with the help of footage received from CCTV cameras installed in the recent past. Cops led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Karanveer Singh have launched a coordinated movement to install CCTV cameras at various parts of Ludhiana-Malerkotla Highway and link road connecting local town with localities falling under jurisdiction of Ludhiana, Ludhiana (Rural), Khanna and Sangrur police districts.

Cops led by SHO Sadar Sanjiv Kapoor and SHO City Amandeep Kaur have succeeded in roping in office bearers and activists of various organisations of the area in getting cameras installed at all points which are suspected to be used by criminals and anti-social elements to leave the area after committing crime.

Appreciating the gesture of the owners and managers of certain business organisations, industrial groups, educational institutes and religious organisations, SHO Sanjiv Kapoor said, a high quality CCTV cameras had been installed at almost all those points, which will help the police in keeping a track of movement of suspicious persons and vehicles.

Jagera Road, Police Picket at Akbarpur Chhanna, Phallewal, Jandali T Point, deserted Canal Road and Rohira Road are among roads under immediate focus. Kapoor said installation of cameras will help the police investigate cases more expeditiously besides acting as deterrent against probable crime.

“With the help of footage received from a camera recently installed on Ludhiana Malerkotla highway, we have been able to solve a hit and run case in which one of cops posted at City Police was killed,” said Kapoor.
