Ludhiana, July 29
Students of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today protested against the government over vacant posts in the Agriculture and Horticulture Department. As a mark of protest students today polished shoes while siting outside the campus gate and also sold vegetables on the campus.
Students said since the government is not filing the posts so they will be left with no other work but to do meagre jobs like these so they are preparing themselves for this.
Angrez Singh, a student, said there are 510 posts of agriculture development officer, 370 posts of agriculture sub inspector, 150 posts of horticulture development officer and 20 posts of soil conservation officer which are lying vacant.
“The government had promised to fill all the vacant posts but nothing has been done so far. We were pursuing this with the previous government also and neither did it listened to our grievances nor the present government is,” he said.
Students further said that they will continue with the agitation till their demands are met and can also go on chain hunger strike.
