New Delhi, September 23

Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi died of COVID-19 on Wednesday after admission to AIIMS New Delhi about two weeks ago.

Angadi had on September 11 tweeted his COVID-19 positive status. He was since admitted to AIIMS New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the condolences for the departed minister, saying, “Shri Suresh Angadi was an exceptional Karyakarta, who worked hard to make the Party strong in Karnataka. He was a dedicated MP and effective Minister, admired across the spectrum. His demise is saddening. My thoughts are with his family and friends in this sad hour. Om Shanti.”

Leaders cutting across party lines condoled the untimely demise of Angadi, who is the first Union minister to die of COVID-19.

The demise comes on a day when Parliament was adjourned sine die amid COVID fears eight days ahead of schedule.

Angadi belongs to Karnataka and represented Belagavi in Karnataka in the 16th and 17th Lok Sabhas.

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad tweeted, “Deeply saddened to hear about the untimely demise of Sh Suresh Angadi, MoS Railways who succumbed to COVID. Heartfelt condolences to his family. I pray to Almighty that his soul rests in peace.
