Six labourers were killed and two others injured in a blast in a gas tank at a petro-chemical factory in Bijnore this morning. The blast occurred at Mohit Petro-Chemicals on Nagina road under Kotwali police station, where, according to the police, one labourer was missing.
Unofficial reports said the number of those missing could be higher. A search operation was on. The blast occurred when the labourers were welding the boiler of the molasses tank. Buildings in the vicinity felt the impact and glass windowpanes were shattered.
Bijnor SP Umesh Kumar Singh said six labourers died on the spot, while two others were taken to the district hospital where their condition was said to be critical.
