The state BJP unit today hailed the reopening of the Kartarpur corridor, saying it was a gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to the devotees of Guru Nanak Dev.

National general secretary Tarun Chugh said it would provide an opportunity to the devotees to pay respects at the gurdwara, where Guru Nanak spent his last days.

Chugh complimented the PM for respecting the sentiments of the devotees and said the interests of Punjab were safe in his hands. “It is a historic moment as the followers of Guru Nanak can go on a pilgrimage to the gurdwara,” he said.

In a statement, BJP state president Ashwani Sharma said Guru Nanak’s Gurpurb would be celebrated with greater fervour.

A delegation led by Sharma had called on the PM, President Ram Nath Kovind, Shah and BJP president JP Nadda in Delhi over the past two days seeking the reopening of the corridor.
