Muktsar, February 25
As farm leaders were adamant that the cremation of Shubhkaran Singh will not take place until a case is registered against those responsible for it, the state government has decided to construct a road connecting to Shubhkaran’s village and name it after him.
Earlier, CM Bhagwant Mann has announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore and a government job for Shubhkaran’s sister. Shubhkaran, a debt-ridden farmer from Ballo village in Bathinda district, died on Wednesday amid clashes between the Haryana Police and agitating farmers at Khanauri border.
Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian said, “I visited Shubhkaran’s residence on Saturday to mourn his death and met his grandmother. The village panchayat raised the issue of constructing a road between Ballo-Tajoke villages towards Tapa. It is a ‘kutcha’ path of nearly 5-km. I have given them the assurance that the Punjab State Agricultural Marketing Board will construct the road and it will also be named after Shubhkaran.”
