Amritsar, March 3

A high-level delegation of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) met Governor Banwarilal Purohit to raise the issues of firing at a gurdwara in Sultanpur Lodhi, hunger strike by Sikh detainees at Dibrugarh jail and release of ‘Bandi Singhs’.

The delegation, led by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, handed over three demand letters to the Governor. The letter related to Sultanpur Lodhi incident says that the state government has hurt the Sikh sentiments by committing major violation of ‘maryada’ (dignity) at Gurdwara Shri Akal Bunga Sahib in November.

Regarding the case of Sikh youths detained in Dibrugarh jail, Dhami said it had come to light that the youths in jail were being harassed as well as their privacy was being violated.

“Sikh youths and their families have been on hunger strike for the past 10 days. We requested the Governor to raise this case of violation of human rights immediately with the Union Home Ministry and transfer the Sikh youths detained in Dibrugarh jail to Punjab jail”, he said.
