With lesser numbers of students opting for science stream and maths in Class XI, the city education department has decided to seek help from college professors. The professors of city colleges will take classes for  Class IX and X students in government schools to rekindle the interest elaborating on opportunities ahead.

 Under a special programme the education department has so far selected seven schools of Gurugram block, two of Farrukhnagar and one of Sohna block. Education department will spend Rs 75,000 for this initiative meant to be undertaken before January 30.

Dealing with a dip of around 30 per cent inthe number of those opting for the science stream in many schools the education department has decided to not just attempt rekindling scientific temperament in students but also to make them aware of career options in this stream.

 The professors shall be leading experiments and students who perform best in practicals shall be awarded. Similarly, they will analyse students problems in maths and strengthening their fundamentals.

 The selected schools are GSSS, Daultabad, Kadipur, 4-8 Marla, Sector 4-7, Jaicobpura, Chakkarpur, Civil Lines, GHS, Kaliyawas, GSSS, Budhera and Badshahpur.

 “The programme is being organised to increase interest in students towards science and mathematics. Ten schools in the district have been selected for this. A budget of Rs 75,000 has also been released in ten schools. Students will also be told about different activities in the program by college professors”, said Sangeeta Chaudhary, district project officer.
