Isle of Man: Former world champion Viswanathan Anand was held to a draw by Vladislav Artemiev of Russia in the eighth and penultimate round, ending the Indian challenge in the Isle of Man International Chess tournament here on Sunday.

Former world champion Viswanathan Anand was held to a draw by Vladislav Artemiev of Russia in the eighth and penultimate round, ending the Indian challenge in the Isle of Man International Chess tournament here on Sunday. The game lasted 32 moves. SP Sethuraman continued with his fine form and drew with last World Championship finalist Sergey Karjakin of Russia. The result helped him reach 5.5 points, same as Anand.  At the top of the table, Arkadij Naiditsch of Azerbaijan downed Hikaru Nakamura of the United States to reach 6.5 points. Giving him company at the top was Radoslav Wojtaszek of Poland.

Asian Snooker Tour: Pankaj enters knockout stage 

Multiple time world champion Pankaj Advani on Sunday won both his league matches to move into the knockout stages of the second leg of Asian Snooker Tour in Jinan, China. In his first match, Pankaj overcame a local Chinese challenger, Pang Junxu, 4-2. Later, the reigning world billiards and snooker champion whitewashed Qatar’s Ahmed Saif 4-0.

India No. 3 Pranjala enters her maiden WTA main draw  

India No. 3 Pranjala Yadlapalli qualified for the main draw of a WTA tennis event for the first time in her fledgling career here on Sunday. Pranjala outclassed her Georgian opponent Oksana Kalashnikova in straight sets in the second and final qualifying round match of the $125,000 L&T Mumbai Open. The 19-year-old took one hour and 15 minutes to carve out a 6-4 6-3 victory over Oksana.

Das, Chauhan win Indoor archery title

Olympian Atanu Das and Asian Games silver medallist Rajat Chauhan clinched the top honours in their respective sections in the Indoor Archery invitational meet here on Sunday. In the recurve section, Das defeated Amit Yadav in the final. The women’s recurve title was won by Komolika Bari, who defeated Sushmita Biruli in the final.  Chauhan beat Surnendu Roy in the men’s compound final, while Parveena got the better of Asian Games medallist Trisha Deb in the women’s section.

ISL: FC Goa thrash Pune 

FC Goa climbed back to the top in the Indian Super League as they thrashed FC Pune City 4-2 here on Sunday. The game saw six goals in the first 35 minutes.  Ferran Corominas’ brace (5th minute, 35th) and goals from Hugo Boumous and Jackichand Singh gave the hosts their third win, while Marcelinho (8th) and Emiliano Alfaro (23rd) scored for the visitors. — Agencies
