Punjabi singer Elly Mangat today filed a complaint with the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Sanjeev Kalra, regarding alleged torture by the Mohali police.

In his complaint, the singer, who demanded a high-level inquiry in the matter, alleged that he was tortured by Mohali police DSP Ramandeep Singh, his two gunmen Sahil and Satinder and inspector Rajiv Kumar, also the Station House Officer at the Mataur police station, when he was taken into custody on September 11.

The singer also alleged that the police had also made his video, which is not in good taste. Apart from that, Mangat also leveled allegations that he was asked to give Rs 50 lakh and a swanky car in bribe.

Mohali DSP Ramandeep Singh termed all allegations false and baseless. “Mangat was arrested from Sector 88. He had gone there to fight with his rival singer Rami Randhawa, after setting a proper time. On call of both singers, a large number of their fans had come to the spot and started created ruckus. Mangat was arrested from the spot as he was inciting his rivals for a fight,” the DSP said.

On the allegations of third degree torture and demand of bribe, DSP Ramandeep said he was lying just to gain public sympathy and cheap publicity.

“He was not beaten up in custody and nobody asked him for bribe,” the DSP added.

DSP Ramandeep said, “As a large number of the singers’ supporters had created a ruckus and also allgedly fired shots in the air in Sector 88 on September 11, we are in process of identifying them. The singers apparently know those persons and trying to shield them.”

Both singers were booked under Sections 295, 504 and 506 of the IPC at the Sohana police station, following their spat on social media. Later, the police had also slapped Section 294 of the IPC against Mangat.

At present, Mangat is out on bail. Mangat said he had also attached a copy of the medical report with his complaint to the ADGP.
