Covid-19 claimed life of 12 more persons, including a child, in Ludhiana district while 193 cases of the disease were reported today.

According to the Health Department, a five-year-old boy from Noorwala Road, who died, tested positive for Covid-19. He was also suffering from tuberculosis.

Besides, others, who died due to the virus, include a 42-year-old woman from area near GNE College, a 73-year-old woman from Gurdev Nagar, a 64-year-old man from Vishnupuri, a 53-year-old woman from Siahar village, a 65-year-old man from Anand Nagar, Khanna, a 57-year-old woman from New Aman Nagar, a 47-year-old woman from Rajiv Gandhi Colony, a 64-year-old man from Kuldeep Nagar, near Basti Jodhewal, a 49-year-old man from Sherpur, a 85-year-old man from Mohalla Vijay Nagar of Jagraon and a 60-year-old man from Sahnewal.

Out of the 193 cases reported today, 63 patients had influenza like illness and visited flu corner, 51 patients came in contact of Covid-19 patients while 27 cases came at OPDs. As many as 11 healthcare workers, four cops and one pregnant woman tested positive for the virus. Besides, two patients were suffering from severe acute respiratory infection (SARI).

The Ludhiana, Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, informed, “In all, 9,219 confirmed cases, which have been reported till date, belong to Ludhiana district. Of them, 6,881 (74.63%) patients have recovered.” “Today, 14 deaths have been confirmed out of which 12 patients are from Ludhiana and one each from Hoshiarpur and Jammu. As many as 345 patients in the district have lost their lives to Covid-19 till date,” stated a report of the Health Department.

“As many as 1,12,601 samples have been collected in the district so far. Results of 4,687 samples are awaited. In all, 2,743 samples have been collected today,” the report added.

Two mobile vans launched for testing

In order to ensure testing of maximum suspected cases in Ludhiana district and to spread awareness about the Covid-19, two mobile testing vans were launched here on Wednesday. Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Rakesh Kumar Agarwal flagged off the vans at the Daresi ground today.

Sandhu and Sharma said, “At present, two vans have been launched in the city. More such vans will be started. These vans will act like a flu corner. People should come forward for testing and avail this facility.”

According to officials, people will be tested from door to door and made aware about precautions to be taken against the disease.

Teams from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital and Christian Medical College and Hospital will provide services for this purpose.
