Chandigarh, March 4

Amandeep Drall carried on from where she left off in the fourth leg as she took a 2-shot lead in the first round of the fifth leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour in Greater Noida today.

Amandeep, with six birdies against three bogeys, carded a 3-under 69. Pranavi Urs (71) and Vani Kapoor (72) are second and third, respectively.

Pachkula’s Amandeep was two shots clear of Pranavi, who was the only other player to return an under par card. Pranavi’s card included an eagle, four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.

At one stage Pranavi looked set for a low score as she began with a flourish. She holed an eagle on the 1st and then added three more birdies on the 3rd, 5th and 6th to go to 5-under. Thereafter, the birdies seemed to dry up for Pranavi as she bogeyed the 7th, double bogeyed the 10th and dropped a shot each on the 13th and 15th to finish with a 71.

Amandeep began with a birdie but gave away the gains on the next, only to birdie the 3rd. A birdie on the 6th, followed by a bogey on the 7th and another birdie on the 9th meant she was 2-under at the turn.

On the back-nine, Amandeep birdied the 11th and 14th but dropped a shot on the 16th to finish with a solid 69.

Playing in the third group of the day, Vani Kapoor took the early clubhouse lead with a par-72, which was overtaken by Pranavi and then Amandeep, who was playing in the last group.

Vani displayed a lot of confidence with a steady round of 72, which included two birdies and two bogeys.

Gaurika Bishnoi, Ridhima Dilawari and amateur Hunar Mittal were tied for fourth place at 1-over 73. — TNS/PTI
