AMRITSAR: Bringing together some of the finest collections of international feature films, short films and documentaries, the Bioscope Global Film Festival, Punjab, and Cine Awards Punjabi is being organised at the GNDU.

Bringing together some of the finest collections of international feature films, short films and documentaries, the Bioscope Global Film Festival, Punjab, and Cine Awards Punjabi is being organised at the GNDU. The three-day festival will culminate in a glamourous award nite with Pollywood stars in attendence.

The festival features films in regional languages, including Assamese, Tamil and even international films in Persian, Arabic and Swedish. Some of the acclaimed short films, including HRD Singh’s Love You Papa, are also going to be featured.

Informing about the details, festival coordinator Jyoti Arora said, “We will be showing multiple films in three auditoriums at the GNDU. Over the three days, more than 50 films will be screened. Also, as a part of social endeavor, the BGFF has decided to initiate this year a social programme called Chalo Padhaye. Under it, the BGFF will sponsor 14 needy children for their studies from Class I to 12.”

Senior Punjabi actor Shivinder Mahal said such festivals would be helpful in creasing awareness about good regional cinema.

The inaugural day saw screening of seven English films, including three short films, short film in Hindi and Malayalam and feature films in Marathi, Tamil and Creole ( a hybrid language made by mixing of two or three languages).

The chief guest for the award nite will be Nadir Patel, High Commissioner, Canada, Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu. Other artistes attending the festival include Sargun Mehta, Malkeet Rauni Harby Sangha, Saanvi Dhiman, Rupinder Rupi,Vijay Tondan, Nirmal Rishi, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Sardar Sohi, Karamjeet Anmol, Meet Kaur, Arvinder Bhatti, Hobby Dhaliwal, Mahavir Bhullar, Nisha Bano and Sherry Maan.

With the mission of promoting 22 Indian regional languages on a single platform, the Bioscope Global Film Festival is supported by the Punjab Ministry of Art & Cultural and the Department of Tourism.
