The chain hunger strike by members of the district unit of the MGNREGA Employees’ Union entered its 13th day here on Tuesday.

The members said they had not been received their monthly salary for the past more than 20 months.

Baljit Singh, district president of the union, said on Tuesday, Palwinder Singh, Lakhan Sharma, Khushmeet Singh and Ravidner Singh sat on the hunger strike.

Other members of the union staged a protest and raised slogans against the state government.

They accused the administration of not redressing their problem.

Baljit said they had been demanding their salary for the past many months, but nothing had been done in this regard.

He said MLAs Dr Dhamarber Agnihotri, Harminder Singh Gill and Sukhpal Sigjh Bhullar met them and urged to end the strike. They supported their demand, but the MLAs had also not done anything in favour of the demand, he added.

The union members said they would continue to observe the strike till they receive their salary. Apart from that, the protesters also demanded the salary on time.
