Amritsar, October 19

Phulkari-Women of Amritsar hosted celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija at hotel Radisson Blu on Saturday. With 15 years of experience of helping people improve their understanding of food, Makhija has quite an impressive clientele, including bollywood A-listers such as Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Shahid and Mira Kapoor, Twinkle Khanna, Sushmita Sen, Ranbir Kapoor, Ishaan Khattar and Tiger Shroff.

Makhija addressed the workshop by taking up the subject of eating healthy and better understanding of food. A book written by Makhija was unveiled by MC Commissioner Komal Mittal. After two earlier well-received books, ‘Eat-Delete’ and ‘Eat-Delete Junior’, Makhija’s latest book is a self-help book directed at children to teach them why eating right is so important.

“Diet influences mood, thoughts and even our ability to have fun. So, knowing what food can provide maximum nourishment will help make mothers’ jobs of attempting to keep growing children from tanking up on junk food easier,” said Makhija while addressing mother’s at the event. She said her book on kids’ nutrition was something that they could read themselves and know about healthy food. “It has a lot of illustrations, games and an understanding of eating right food,” she said.

She shared some important health pointers for healthy body. “The most important advice is to eat food, make friends with food and not starve in order to loose weight. Eat right and drink lots of water after every two hour to stay hydrated. Also, it is important that you eat something between an hour after you wake up in morning, do not drink tea/coffee on an empty stomach and eat balanced diet.”

The event was also attended by children and grandchildren of members. The group was joined by principals of leading schools of the city. The event also saw the introduction of Makhija’s line of high-quality precisely portioned vegan organic dairy-free snacks. “The event ‘N for nourish’ is the last of our series of events from the Wellness Quarter. Throughout this quarter, we focused on various means of attaining a healthy body for females, but the health cycle of mothers is not complete without the proper nourishment of their families. Since proper nourishment of kids can be a real challenge, we decided to educate our members by a master of the field. Pooja Makhija is not only a celebrity nutritionist, but has long focused on educating kids on the subject whilst making it interesting for them,” said Sandhya Sikka, president of Phulkari. “We have also invited school principals to encourage students as well, hoping that schools will too bend towards the culture if healthy eating instead of junk food is served at school canteens,” she added.
