Traders irked over govt’s policy on e-way bill

AMRITSAR: Traders are irked at the state government for once again reducing the exemption limit for generating e-way bill for 11 varieties of goods from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 50,000 for intra-state movement.

Amritsar, October 17

Traders are irked at the state government for once again reducing the exemption limit for generating e-way bill for 11 varieties of goods from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 50,000 for intra-state movement. These goods include iron, non-ferrous metal, tobacco, furniture, plywood, wood, building material, cement, plastic, yarn and edible oil.

A GST dealer, Sameer Jain, said small traders would be hit as they would have to go through the “cumbersome” e-way bill process. Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal president Pyara Lal Seth said the state government had acceded to their demand in mid September after numerous delegations held meeting with Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal to double the exemption limit for generating e-way bill for any type of goods from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh for intra-state movement. — TNS
