6 booked for cheating on pretext of sending local residents abroad

AMRITSAR: The Amritsar rural police have booked six persons in three separate cases on charges of duping local residents on the pretext of sending their wards to foreign shores in search of green pastures.

The Amritsar rural police have booked six persons in three separate cases on charges of duping local residents on the pretext of sending their wards to foreign shores in search of green pastures.

Though three cases have been registered by the police following investigations, no arrest has been made till now.

Amarjit Singh of Shero Nigah village in his complaint to the Beas police said that in July Joginder Singh, his son Ramjit Singh and Ramjit’s wife Gurjit Kaur, all residents of Sathiala village had cheated him of Rs 5.85 lakh for sending his son Sapandeep Singh abroad. After a probe and taking legal opinion, the police have registered a case under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act against them.

Similarly, Sukhraj Kaur of Dhulka village stated to police that Pal Singh and his wife Gurmeet Kaur took Rs 5 lakh for sending his son to New Zealand. She said the accused promised to send her son there. However, they were neither returning the amount nor sending him abroad.

The police have registered a case against them under the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act and Section 420 of the IPC.

Meanwhile, in another incident, Arjinder Singh of Chachewali village was allegedly defrauded by Pardeep Singh of Gurdaspur district. He filed a complaint with local police in April while stating that the accused took Rs 3 lakh from him to send his brother Baljider Singh to Dubai. Out of this, he returned Rs 1.20 lakh, but denied to return remaining money. The police have registered a case against him.
