Tightening the noose around “underperforming” cops amid the ongoing anti-drugs drive in the state, the police have placed four heads of police posts under suspension. Three station house officers (SHOs) have been served show-cause notices in this connection.

Following a meeting organised at the rural Police Lines at Daburji, IG (Border Range) SPS Parmar issued such orders during on-the-spot inspection of the performance of the officers concerned.

The suspended cops are Sub-Inspector (SI) Lakhbir Singh, in-charge Jandiala police post, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kashmir Singh of Bal Kalan police post, ASI Parshotam Lal of Nawan Pind police post and ASI Sukhdev Singh of Kahangarh police post.

Besides, the police also presented Class-1 commendation certificates to three inspectors, four SIs and four ASIs for their good work. Parmar along with Amritsar (Rural) SSP Parampal Singh directed the cops to be vigilant and take stern action against drug peddlers besides getting addicts admitted to de-addiction centres for treatment. “No laxity will be tolerated at any level. Non-performance or underperformance will entail stern action,” they said.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sangha was also present at the meeting. He informed the police officials about steps being taken by the administration for de-addiction. He said the administration was expanding the existing medical facilities to accommodate more and more addicts for their rehabilitation.
