Govt’s move to create book banks hailed

AMRITSAR: The move of the Education Department of creating book banks in government schools has been hailed.

The move of the Education Department of creating book banks in government schools has been hailed. The department has asked school heads to look into the collection, storage of books from passing students to be used for re-used for the coming batch.

The department aims at promoting proper use of books among students and helping parents and department meet financial expenses.

Arbinder Kaur, Principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Chamuda Devi, Amritsar, said, “Earlier too, such a system was followed in schools. Under it, old books are given to new students. The letter was received a few days ago.”

A government school teacher, said, “This is a wise move by the state education department to meet expenses and help students to take care of their books.”

Used books are generally given free to students up to classes VIII. Girls and those belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) receive books for free till senior secondary.

Many feel that the move will be a great help to students from economically weaker section. “It will help students from economically weak class. Parents will not have to worry about the expenses. More such efforts should be made,” said Gagan, a student of GNDU.
