Officials of the District Health Department conducted a surprise check at newly opened clean street food hub near Darbar Sahib here on Monday. The team led by Civil Surgeon Hardeep Singh Ghai visited various food stalls in the street and asked them to ensure implementation of all food safety norms.

Ghai said owners had been asked to get all workers medically examined, ensure cleanliness, covering of heads, use of gloves and other safety norms. He said surprise checks at the place would be made a regular feature so that the first food hub was promoted as quality eating place among residents. He said action would be taken against shopkeepers who failed to meet the required standards.

Dr Gurpreet Singh, Assistant Commissioner Food, said people would be required to make this venture successful. He said that people should report any complaints regarding lack of cleanliness and hygiene to the department. Deputy mass media officer Amardeep Singh, Food Inspector Simranjit Singh and Aarush Bhalla were also present on the occasion.
