Amritsar, June 19

The work at the DC office has been affected as the pen-down strike by the employees entered the second day here on Wednesday. The strike call was given by the Punjab DC Office Employees’ Association.

All works related to registration of marriages, issuing certificates of residence, scheduled castes and others came to halt. Similarly, judicial works at SDM-I and SDM-II have been hampered.

People faced harassment on the second day also as the DC office staff continued with their state-wide strike in support of their demands.

Association senior vice president Asunil Kumar said the DC offices across the state urgently needed 500 more employees to smoothly carry out the routine work. Apart from immediately meeting the shortage of staff, their other demands include release of DA arrears and pay revision under the guidelines of the new pay commission.

Association district president Arvinder Singh Sandhu said, “Employees feel betrayed by the state government. Even after giving assurance and accepting demands, no notification has been issued.”

He said the government had failed to fulfil its pre-poll promises like implementation of the sixth pay commission report and regular jobs.

He wondered that why the government was offering pension to its MPs and MLAs even after a stint of five years. On the other hand, pension was denied to employees even after three to four decades of service.
