Peace activist and founder of Sai Mian Mir Foundation, Harbhajan Singh Brar, has condemned the statement of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh against the Kartarpur corridor. Brar was of the view that Amarinder Singh should not oppose the Kartarpur corridor merely for the sake of opposing Navjot Singh Sidhu.

“The followers of Guru Nanak have been performing prayers for the last 70 years to get visa-free access to Gurdwara Kartarpur in Pakistan. Not only the Sikhs, follower of Guru Nanak from all religions are happy with the move of India and Pakistan governments. The foundation stone-laying ceremonies have been organised with great zeal on both sides of the border. Now why is Captain Amarinder Singh considering it as a conspiracy by Pakistan? If the Captain is really concerned about the lives of jawans, he should take initiatives to restore permanent peace on the Indo-Pak border,” said Brar. The Sai Mian Mir Foundation, in association with Alami Panjabi Sangat, will host a mela at Dera Baba Nanak and light lamps of desi ghee to welcome the move by the Indian and Pakistan governments for the corridor.

Gangveer Rathore, another peace activist, said, “We are going to organise a mela at Dera Baba Nanak demanding relaxation on the Indo-Pak border. The whole of Punjab is the courtyard of Baba Nanak Ji and we have been demanding that it be declared a no-war zone. The visa process should be relaxed between both the nation-states.” Harbhajan Singh Brar, a septuagenarian, is on a mission to reunite friends and families separated during partition. Since 2004, he has arranged 650 visas for the people of the two Punjabs.
