Three Punjabi-origin Canadian MPs today visited Khalsa College here.

Surry Newton MP Sukh Dhaliwal, Surry Central MP Randeep Singh Sarai and Brampton MP Sonia Sidhu were accorded a grand reception on the occasion. Students performed bhangra, giddha and sang welcome songs.

Sukh Dhaliwal, an alumnus of the college, recalled his days as a student during 1979 and 1980. He completed his pre-engineering from the college before settling in Canada.

Canadian Deputy Leader of Parliament Kevin Lamoureux also joined the celebrations. They watched malwai giddha presented by students at the open air theatre of the college. Thereafter, the MPs took a round of the corridors of the college’s heritage building.

The MPs was formally honoured by Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, honourary secretary, Khalsa College Governing Council. He said it was a proud moment for the management.

“We had even invited Justine Trudeau but his schedule was too tight. But, we are thankful to his four MPs for visiting the campus,” said Chhina. He showered praises on Trudeau for inducting Sikh MPs in his Cabinet and paying obeisance at the Golden Temple.

Members of the Khalsa College Governing Council RMS Chhina, Gunbir Singh and SS Abdal, along with principal Dr Mehal Singh, discussed the possibilities of collaboration in the field of education and cultural exchange programmes.
