AMRITSAR: The police have made elaborate security arrangements in view of upcoming Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

The police have made elaborate security arrangements in view of upcoming Republic Day celebrations on January 26. Police authorities said that already a search operation was in progress at different public and sensitive places, like railway station, interstate bus terminus, Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airprot, areas around the Golden Temple and the Durgiana Temple etc.

DCP (Law and order) Amrik Singh Pawar said patrolling has also been increased in the city. Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu would be the chief guest. Pawar said the police were also looking into the whereabouts of the history-sheeters and keeping an eye on their activities in order to ensure peaceful celebrations.

Over 4,000 cops would be deputed in the city. Leaves of security personnel have been cancelled and only emergency leaves will be granted till Republic Day.
