BATHINDA: The police have booked 70 SAD workers for disrupting traffic by blocking a road in Goniana Mandi.

Bathinda, May 22

The police have booked 70 SAD workers for disrupting traffic by blocking a road in Goniana Mandi. However, a few Akali workers said they were falsely implicated as they had no role in the case.

The accused have been identified as Balkar Singh, former chairman of PRTC, and Goniana councillor Ramesh Kumar and 68 others, whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

Balkar said he had been “falsely implicated” and he had no role in the case. He said, “A few days ago, the police had also registered a false case against me for indulging in violence. On May 18, attempts were made to kidnap a SAD councillor, Ramesh Kumar, and the police had identified one person in the case. We have informed our senior leaders Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Singh Badal about the incidents and cases registered against Akali workers.”

Dhanjit Singh of Chahal village in Faridkot district has filed a complaint with the Nehianwala police. In his complaint, Dhanjit said when he was on his way home from Bathinda, around 60-70 people were disrupting traffic near Goniana Mandi due to which he had to face inconvenience.

Dhanjit Singh was the in-charge of Congress candidate from the Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency Amrinder Singh Raja Warring’s election office in Goniana Mandi.

Police officer Malkit Singh said, “On the statement of Dhanjit Singh, we have registered a case 70 persons. We have initiated an investigation into the matter.” — TNS
