Staff members of Government High School, Khiali Wala village, members of the Khet Mazdoor Union and panchayat members met the District Education Officer and submitted to him a complaint against a teacher for his alleged misbehaviour.

Members of the union, parents of students and school staff in their complaint alleged that the concerned teacher was using foul language with students during school hours and also misbehaved with them.

Talking to The Tribune, Sukhpal Singh Khialiwala, president of the union, said, “Nand Lal, a social studies teacher at Government High School, Khialiwala, had been using offensive language with students for a long time. Last month, girl students of the school submitted a written complaint against his behaviour to the principal. In their complaint, the students said the teacher concerned was using foul language during a class with them and also made their videos. We, along with the school committee, had submitted a complaint against the teacher on August 20. But citing that the enquiry process is lengthy, the Education Department has not taken any action against the teacher till now.”

He said, “After the teacher came back from medical leave on September 14, the students refused to attend his classes, a decision which is affecting their studies. The Education Department needs to speed up the enquiry proceedings so that students’ studies are not affected further.”

However, when contacted, Nand Lal said, “These allegations are baseless and even people mentioned in the complaint are also fake. The department needs to conduct a thorough probe to get to the root of the matter.”

Gurpreet Kaur, principal of the government school, admitted that she had received a written complaint regarding misbehaviour by the teacher from girl students of the school.

Baljeet Kumar, District Education Officer, said, “The probing team will submit its final report on Saturday and if the teacher is found guilty, we would take strict action against him.”
