District Agriculture Officer Dr Gurditta Singh Sandhu on Thursday flagged off vans and other vehicles which will make farmers aware of the ill-effects of stubble burning. These vehicles will carry flexes and loudspeakers though which awareness will be spread among the farmers.

Dr Sandhu said the vehicles would motivate farmers to re-use wheat stubble instead of burning it. He said the flexes and loudspeakers would apprise farmers of various ways of using stubble for the betterment of the soil and environment.

He said since March, special camps were being organised in villages to make the farmers aware of the benefits of plowing stubble and ill-effects of burning the same.

Dr Sandhu said announcements were being made in gurdwaras, posters were being pasted on walls in villages and information was being disseminated through the panchayats to prevent farmers from setting wheat stubble on fire. — TNS
