Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal on Sunday announced new projects for the city.

Manpreet said three new overbridges — two in the trans-railway line area and one in Janta Nagar — would come up in the city.

Residents of the trans-railway line area will get relief if these overbridges are constructed. At present, commuters have to wait for hours at the railway crossings.

Besides, the Finance Minister also announced that that an 11-km road would be constructed from Bibiwala village to the Goniana ring road at a cost of Rs7.80 crore. He said the road from the Jassi chowk to Bhagu village would be repaired and for that, he would soon release Rs67 lakh.

On Sunday morning, the minister visited Ward No. 2 and got the work started on the Joganand road. While addressing a gathering, Manpreet said Rs59.47 lakh would be spend on repairing the road and it would take around two months.

Manpreet said he had fulfilled the promise of development in the trans-railway line area, which he made with the residents before the elections. On the occasion, he also assured that more development works would be carried out in the area.

“We will make Bathinda the number one city in Punjab in terms of development. The SAD-BJP had ruined the state and left its economy in a bad shape. Now, with our efforts, the economy of the state has started coming back on track. To make the economy more strong, I had recently visited West Bengal and met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Finance Minister Amit Mishra to discuss their excise policy. We are planning to implement the policy in the state to increase the revenue,” said Manpreet.

He also visited Nai Basti, Joganand Road, Thermal Colony, Paras Ram Nagar, Partap Nagar, Model Town and Kamla Nehru Colony.
