GKU prof felicitated in Bangalore

TALWANDI SABO: Dr Daljeet Singh, Professor and head of the department of vegetable science, Guru Kashi University (GKU), Talwandi Sabo, has been conferred with the “Best citizen of India” award by the Global Economics Progress and Research Association in recognition for his contributions to the field of vegetable science.

Dr Daljeet Singh, Professor and head of the department of vegetable science, Guru Kashi University (GKU), Talwandi Sabo, has been conferred with the “Best citizen of India” award by the Global Economics Progress and Research Association in recognition for his contributions to the field of vegetable science.

Dr Singh was presented a gold medal, a citation and a memento during the 43rd National Unity Conference at a function held in Bangalore.

Former Union Minister of State for planning, Rajaseharan, presented the honour to Dr Singh in the presence of the Vice Chancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, Dr Shivanna and former Justice of Session Court, Chennai, Justice K Swami Durai and others.

Dr Singh, whose name figured in ‘America-Asia Who is Who (Part-VII) Directory’, is a nominated member of the New York Academy of Science, International Society of Horticulture Science, besides being a research advisor to several multinational companies engaged in seed business.

He has released seven improved varieties of vegetables tolerant to biotic and abiotic stresses and recommended production technology for open field and protected cultivation of vegetables. Dr Singh recently introduced quinoa – a nutrition-rich crop in Punjab and has developed its production technology. — TNS
