Bathinda, March 24

Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu has sought the details of workers working in the residences of officers.

The Local Bodies Department had written a letter to the municipal corporations and councils in the state regarding this.

The Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB) was also told to provide the details of main office or field office workers presently working at the residences of officers to the head office by 11 am today.

MCB officials today held a meeting in this regard. They have also prepared a list and have sent it to the Local Bodies Department.

The department is planning to reduce the number of such workers and depute them to work in the field.

There were many complaints from residents regarding poor sanitation in the city. Councillors had also raised the issue in the general house meeting.

Officials had claimed that there was a shortage of workers due to which the work was affected in the city.

There are many streets in the city in which workers don’t come every day for cleaning.

Councillors have also claimed that there were only four-five workers for each ward due to which they were unable to handle huge work.

President of the Sanitation Workers Union, Gora Lal, has also raised the issue of shortage of sanitation workers as the city has expanded in the last few years but the number of workers has not been increased.
