The State Vigilance Bureau (VB) today nabbed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at the Dirba police station in Sangrur red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,500.

VB officials said ASI Karam Singh, the accused, was caught following a complaint of Sukhwinder Singh of Munshiwala village in Sangrur district. The complainant had approached the VB alleging that the ASI was demanding Rs 25,000 to help him in a police case.

The complainant stated that the ‘deal’ was finalised at Rs 20,500 and he had already paid Rs 10,000 as the first installment to the accused.

The officials said a Vigilance team laid a trap and the ASI was arrested on the spot while taking a bribe of Rs 10,500 from the complainant in the presence of witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB police station, Patiala. Further investigation in the case was under progress, said the officials.
