Members of Sri Gobind Gopal Sarv Sanjhi Gaushala, Maur, on Monday threatened to abandon stray cattle on roads from the gaushala if they were not provided funds from the cow cess by the administration.

A delegation of gaushala members, including Dev Raj Sharma, Satpal Sharma and Sushil Kumar, on Monday met the Deputy Commissioner and submitted a memorandum of the demands for funds to run the gaushala and managing stray cattle.

Talking to mediapersons, the delegation members said 170 members of the gaushala situated in Maur Mandi and people from nearby villagers made efforts to start a gaushala. They said there were 1,800 stray cattle in the gaushala, but they were not getting any help from the district administration. They said now, they did not have funds to manage such a large number of cattle.

They said they had repeatedly given their representations to many deputy commissioners, but to no avail.

Gaushala president Satpal Sharma said, “In Maur Mandi, the government has 28-acre land and it organises an animal fair every month and the government, along with the Animal Husbandry Department, earns around Rs 30 lakh every month. Now, we are facing problems in managing the stray cattle so if we are not given the cow cess by the district administration, we will be left with no choice, but to set stray cattle free on roads.”
