The Bathinda administration today sent polling parties to 14 wards of Talwandi Sabo for the municipal elections tomorrow. Provision has been made for videography at six booths declared ‘sensitive’ while 500 police personnel will keep a watch on law and order. The Talwandi Sabo Municipal Council was set up in 2012. It will be its second election.

With Congress candidate Gupreet Singh Manshahia already elected unopposed, polling will be held for 14 wards with 37 candidates in the fray. There are in all 15,977 voters. The Congress is contesting from all 14 wards, the SAD-BJP from 13 and AAP four. There is one CPI (M) candidate among the contestants.

While four wards are in the general category, five are reserved for women, three for SCs, two for SC women and one for Backward Classes.

Barinder Kumar, SDM-cum-Returning Officer, said polling would begin at 8 am and conclude at 4 pm. A PRO, an APRO and three polling officer had been deployed at the six polling booths in Talwandi Sabo Khalsa Senior Secondary School (Boys & Girls), Government Secondary School, Government Elementary School, Yadavindra Engineering College and Guru Kashi College. Booth No. 1,10,14 and 15 have been declared ‘sensitive’.

Bathinda SSP Naveen Singla said an SP, two DSPs and six SHOs had been deployed in the town for free and fair polling. “Five nakas have been set up and six patrol parties will be on the job,” he added.
