Residents of Malout town on Tuesday finally got a direct way leading to the local cremation ground near the railway crossing after the district administration demolished a wall, which was proving to be an obstruction.

Some residents of Ajit Nagar, however, lodged a protest and clashed with the police against the demolition of the wall.

Notably, after the construction of the railway overbridge there was no smooth passage to the cremation ground and people had to face hardships.

Keeping the problem as well as local resident’s demand in mind, the administration had earlier too tried to demolish the wall, but could not get success.

Meanwhile, after demolishing the wall on Tuesday, the administration installed the gates there and announced that it would be opened only at the time of cremation of a body.

Some local organisations have appreciated this long-awaited step taken by the administration. — TNS
