Industry chamber CII has called for ending the logjam in Parliament to clear legislations vital for the economy.

Captains of industry from CII said stalling of Parliamentary procedures was leading to delays in crucial decision making. Parliament has hardly functioned in the monsoon session due to a stalemate between the government and the Opposition.

Sumit Mazumder, president, CII, said key Bills, including GST, Land Acquisition Bill and the Electricity Amendment Bill, are pending for discussion and passage.

“These are collective responsibilities. The pace of reforms that we have seen in the past two sessions of Parliament should have continued unabated in this session too”, he said.

Chandrajit Banerjee, Director-General, CII, has called for Parliamentarians to come together for the common cause of development. “Industry is keen to undertake the next cycle of investments as soon as the economic reforms process kicks in. With several critical economic Bills getting delayed, investment deceleration is plaguing the economy. Parliament holds the key to unlocking the investment pipeline and CII urges taking up the necessary Bills”, he added.
