27 more down with diarrhoea

There has been no let-up in diarrhoea cases in Mauli Jagran. A day after 50 residents of Mauli Jagran and surrounding areas were taken to hospitals after they complained of vomiting and loose motions, 27 fresh cases of diarrhoea were reported at the Mani Majra Civil Hospital on Monday.

Some of the patients were even seen being treated at the hospital corridors due to the shortage of beds.

However, the health authorities said the 35 water samples, which were collected on Sunday, cleared the tests. “The water was found to be fit for drinking. We are investigating as to what other sources could have led to the outbreak of diarrhoea,” said a Health Department official.

Sources said contaminated water might have been supplied on Friday and Saturday ,which led to the outbreak.

Panic had spread in the Mauli Jagran area on Sunday after residents complained of a diarrhoea outbreak due to contaminated drinking water.

Affected residents were taken to the Civil Hospital, Mani Majra, and the General Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula.

Even today, the Health Department teams distributed ORS sachets and residents were sensitised to maintaining hygiene in and around their houses. Garbage was scattered at several places in Mauli Jagran, while water accumulated on roads was also posing hygiene issues.
