Arnav, Deevanshi rule the roost

Arnav Aggarwal of Gurukul Global School won three titles, while Deevanshi of St Kabir School claimed two on the penultimate day of the inaugural Chandigarh State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament at the Sector 50 Sports Complex here on Saturday. 

Aggarwal topped the podium in the boys’ U-15, U-17 and U-21 age-groups, while Deevanshi dominated the girls’ U-18 and U-21 categories. 

In the boys’ U-15 competition, Aggarwal drubbed schoolmate Samarth Sharma 11-8 11-7 11-5 in the final. Earlier, in the semis, Aggarwal came from behind to beat Harkirat of Manav Mangal School, Sector 21, 7-11 11-4 11-6 8-11 11-4, while Sharma humbled Aariv 12-10 6-11 11-9 11-1.

Sharma was again at the receiving end as he lost 11-9 9-11 11-13 8-11 to Aggarwal in the boys’ U-18 title clash.  While Sharma had downed Vansh Mahajan 11-5 8-11 11-9 11-7 in the semis, Aggarwal edged out Sachit Saini 11-6 11-7 11-7.

Aggarwal, meanwhile, picked up his third title of the day after he overcame a resilient Shaurya Raj SSGSD College, Sector 32, in the boys’ U-21 summit clash. Aggarwal prevailed 11-8 9-11 6-11 11-7 11-9 in the final. In the semifinals, Aggarwal defeated Sahil Sharma 11-7 13-11 4-11 11-9, while Raj ousted Shaurya Gupta 11-8 8-11 11-7 9-11 11-7.

Deevanshi in command 

In the girls’ U-18 final, Deevanshi edged out Vasundhara 11-6 11-9 10-12 11-6. She had defeated Arshita 11-8 11-7 9-11 11-9 in the semis, while Vasundhara trounced Pelf 13-11 11-6 11-5. 

Deevanshi then humbled Vibhuti 11-5 13-15 11-8 11-9 to win the U-21 title. In the semifinals, Deevanshi defeated Vasundhara 11-9 9-11 11-8 13-11, while Vibhuti overcame Pelf 12-14 9-11 11-9 11-6 11-9.

Pelf of Learning Paths School, Mohali, though managed to win the girls’ U-15 title after beating Neha 11-13 11-9 11-7 11-7 in the final. 

Earlier, she beat Manal 11-5 11-8 8-11 11-3 to set up the title clash with Neha, who packed off Soumya 12-10 9-11 11-7 11-9 in the semifinals. 

On Friday, Vishal had overcame a tough challenge from Pritish Sood to claim the boys’ U-12 title. He won 11-6 11-7 13-15 8-11 12-10. 

In the girls’ U-12 competition, Manal registered an 11-7 11-9 8-11 11-4 win
