A family, based in Sector 56 here, has helped save lives of two terminally-ill patients at the PGI by consenting to donate organs of a deceased member.

Rohit Kumar (29) was admitted to the GMCH, Sector 32, following an accident on December 4. His motorcycle skidded leading to a fall and thereby, he received a fatal head injury. He was referred to the PGI the same day. However, Rohit’s condition worsened and was declared brain dead on December 7 evening.

In the meantime, deceased’s father consented to the proposal of organ donation. Best matching recipients were identified and two kidney transplants were accomplished on December 8.

“We were going back and forth on our decision but finally we felt that it was the right thing to do,” shared Harnek Singh, the grief-stricken father of deceased Rohit.”

“In fact, organ donation affirmed for us that saying no will be denying other people the chance for making it through life,” said Harnek.
